The name "Louve" means "she-wolf" in French and symbolises mysticism, community, and independence -values that have inspired our brand. The initiative for Louve came from two of our female founders, making the name a natural reflection of our identity and vision.
Our production process takes approximately 4--6 weeks, from fermentation to bottling. The timeframe depends on batch size and the meticulous quality controls we conduct to ensure a product of the highest quality.
We collaborate with selected partners who share our commitment to high quality.
Unaged rum has not been barrel-aged, resulting in a clean and light character where the natural flavours from the distillation take center stage. It is excellent both for sipping neat and as a base in cocktails.
Månsken rum is produced by Tevsjö Mill & Distillery in Järvsö.
Månsken rum is made from organic Cuban molasses, Swedish spring water, and yeast. The product is completely free from additives and contains no added sugar.
The production begins with a mash made from organic Cuban sugarcane molasses, yeast, and water. After approximately three days of fermentation, the mash is carefully distilled in a traditional copper pot still and then rectified in a column still to an alcohol content of around 90%. It is then diluted with local spring water to a final alcohol content of 40%. Månsken rum is unfiltered to preserve its natural character and complexity.
Rectification means that the rum is purified and concentrated through repeated distillation in a column still, resulting in a cleaner and more balanced spirit.
Yes, Månsken rum is completely vegan, both in its ingredients and production process.
Once Månsken rum is completed, it is exposed in an open cask under the full moon, when the moon's energy and vibrations are at their strongest. We believe that the moon influences the Earth and that its energy transfers to the cask, even though there is no scientific basis for this. It is part of our philosophy and our tribute to the rhythms of nature and tradition.
The name Månsken is the Swedish word for "moonshine". The name Månsken comes from the fact that the rum is exposed to the light of the full moon.
There is no scientific evidence that moonlight affects the taste, but the exposure is part of our story and philosophy, inspired by astrology and the rhythms of nature.
Before the full moon, we perform a Reiki ritual over the cask and then expose it to the moonlight throughout the full moon night. This ritual is part of our belief in the moon's energy and our dedication to creating magical moments.
Before Månsken rum is exposed to the full moon, a Reiki ritual is performed over the cask. Reiki is an energy healing technique intended to elevate life energy and transfer positive energy to the rum. It is part of the magical creation of our rum. Reiki is a recognised energy healing practice that is also classified as wellness therapy in Sweden.
Yes, many cultures throughout history have adapted winemaking, brewing, and agriculture to the phases of the moon. Biodynamic producers continue to apply these methods to optimise harvests and fermentation processes.
The full moon is the most symbolic phase in our production, as it is traditionally associated with renewal and the highest energy frequency.
Månsken rum is perfect both for sipping neat or on ice---whichever you prefer---and as a base in cocktails.
Månsken rum works well in a variety of cocktails, such as Cuba Libre, Mojito, Rum Old Fashioned, and Rum & Tonic. Follow us on Instagram for inspiration and recipes. @louve.spirits
For the best quality, Månsken rum should be stored in a cool, dark place.
